Discrepancias de género en los procesos diagnósticos del Trastorno del Espectro Autismo: Una revisión de literatura sistemática acerca de las niñas silenciadas

El artículo es una revisión de literatura sistemática (RLS) que indaga sobre las características del diagnóstico del trastorno del espectro autismo (TEA) en el género femenino, además de auscultar sobre los procesos evaluativos de diagnóstico para cada género. Las preguntas de investigación son: ¿Qué características son identificadas en las niñas con TEA, que podrían considerarse para establecer nuevos lineamientos en los procesos diagnósticos? y ¿Cuáles instrumentos diagnósticos utilizan para identificar y confirmar un diagnóstico de TEA considerando las diferencias de género en su proceso? Se implementó un método de búsqueda booleana para la RLS por el metabuscador Ebscohost. Resultaron ocho artículos (n=8) de cinco países. Las investigaciones demostraron patrones de conducta que presentaba el género femenino como conductas compensatorias y ‘masking’. Los resultados detallaron diferencias en la proporción de niñas que cumplían con criterios particulares de evaluaciones, pero no cumplían con todos los criterios necesarios para poder recibir un diagnóstico en autismo. Se determinó que se requiere mayor investigación en cómo implementar diversidad de métodos de evaluación considerando las particularidades de los géneros.
