Author Guidelines

Instructions to Submit Manuscripts

Once the author submits the manuscript, the Journal Editor will proceed to send it to a blindpeer review process. The reviewers are chosen based on their expertise in the subject and they represent various universities and institutions within and outside Puerto Rico. Once the reviewers finalize the review process, the Journal Editor makes the final decision on whether it is acceptable or not acceptable for publication in the Journal of Behavioral Sciences. The review process usually takes three to four months.

  • All manuscripts must be double-spaced following the publication guidelines established in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Seventh Edition). The abstract, the title and keywords must be presented in Spanish and English and the abstract must not contain more than 150 words.
  • By submitting a manuscript, the author agrees that the material submitted is original, that it has not been previously published and that it is not being considered for publication in another journal or book.
  • Generally, no manuscript should contain more than 25 pages, double-spaced . In the event that a manuscript exceeds this amount, the Editorial Board will evaluate the author's request individually.
  • If applicable, the study contained in the submitted manuscript should have been evaluated and approved by an Institutional Research Ethics Committee or Instituional Review Board (IRB).
  • For a person to appear as the author of an article, they should have made a substantial contribution to the final work, including meeting at least one of the first three requirements:
    1. Have played an important role in the design of the study or analysis and interpretation of the data.
    2. Written parts of the manuscript or had critically reviewed it by adding important intellectual content that can be evidenced.
    3. Being part of the final approval of the submitted version.
    4. Authorship of a paper cannot be based solely on seeking research funding, recruiting subjects, or collecting data. General supervision is not enough to be considered an author. Each author is required to have participated sufficiently in the work and to take public responsibility for its content.
  • The authors of the submitted manuscript should not have any conflict of interest with any person, institution or organization related to the submitted manuscript; on the contrary, if there is a conflict of interest, it must be accordingly indicated in the final product to be published.
  • References should follow the style of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Seventh Edition).
