When discussing psychotherapy as a science in Puerto Rico it is inevitable to discuss how psychology professionals get trained in the use of evidence-based treatments. In the following article there is a discussion about the training and supervision of evidence-based treatments in the Puerto Rican context. In the article by Bernal and colleagues they stated than most models of psychotherapy taught in academic programs in Puerto Rico do not have scientific evidence of its effectiveness. However it is the highest standard of training in evidence-based treatment programs to implement formal education seminars or trainings, the use of treatment manuals and having clinical supervision while using evidence-based treatments. It is extremely important to focus on education when talking about evidence-based treatments and how psychology professionals acquire the knowledge and experience necessary to achieve a scientific practice of psychotherapy in Puerto Rico.
