Abstract

The field of psychotherapy in Puerto Rico has faced great challenges to advance evidence-based treatments (EBT). These challenges have been framed in the limited number of treatments in Puerto Rico with well-established research. These challenges are related to limitations on the appropriate use of research methods, technological resources and lack of structural support in the field of research and psychotherapy in Puerto Rico. Given this scenario we propose to address these barriers and advance the science of psychotherapy in Puerto Rico incorporating a transdisciplinary framework that consider the knowledge of areas such as informatics, anthropology and public policy. In recent years, the field of informatics and health have made great advances in the development of effective and efficacious interventions in a shorter period of time. An integration of these fields in psychotherapy in Puerto Rico could advance the development of EBT.
