Abstract

Recently the concept of homeless has been modified to identify those subjects as "persons without household", trying to eliminate the stigma associated with the word homeless (National Health Care for the Homeless Council [NHCHC, 2015]). The present study use the database known as the Boricua Connection HMIS, selecting 6,945 active records, with 34 variables, in order to obtain an initial profile of homeless persons and at risk of losing their homes, in services programs in Puerto Rico, in which this population receives general services. Results shows that these subjects, tend to be without home an average of 4 months. A 95% of them reported not having any type of income (n = 6,620) to the time of admission to any program of service. Main cause to be homeless was the use of alcohol or drugs. Subjects final destination, after finish the services programs, was rented or subsidized households.
